About 911:

In April 1993, Decatur and Grady Counties signed an agreement to ensure that all citizens of Decatur
and Grady Counties receive emergency service in time of need. The counties agreed to combine efforts to

provide a cost effective plan to deliver emergency service to citizens in both counties. Decatur-Grady 911

was one of the first multi-jurisdictional dispatch centers of its kind in the southeast. In spite of having to

evacuate the Communications Center because of the “100 Year Flood”, Decatur-Grady 911 went “live” July,

29, 1994.

Decatur-Grady 911 is a fully consolidated dispatch center, dispatching law enforcement, fire and

emergency medical services for both counties. Decatur-Grady 911 has a staff of 20 employees, with a

minimum of 3 dispatchers per shift that responds to approximately 450 calls every 24 hours. 911 Dispatchers

are State of Georgia Basic Communications certified, and also EMD (Emergency Medical Dispatch) certified

which allows them to provide pre-arrival instructions to callers needing medical assistance before the

ambulance arrives.
